General Summary of the Position

 

The Catholic Campus Minister serves as a pastoral leader, accompanying students in faith development, leadership formation, and community engagement. This role fosters a vibrant Catholic presence, both at the Tinke Catholic Student Center and on University of Texas at Dallas campus by overseeing spiritual formation, community building, liturgical life, service and outreach, catechetical formation, and student leadership development.

The Catholic Campus Minister collaborates with students, staff, chaplains, diocesan partners as directed by TSCS chaplain and other campus organizations to form missionary disciples who integrate faith into daily life and service.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

 

Formation of Servant Leaders

  • Fosters an atmosphere of welcome so every student experiences Christ’s love through the community.
  • Accompanies and mentors Student Leadership members through individualized formation plans.
  • Under the guidance of the Tinker Catholic Student Center (TCSC) Chaplain, facilitates leadership summits, trainings, and ongoing formation of student leaders.
  • Empowers and holds students accountable for ministry initiatives.

Faith Formation & Spiritual Development

  • Under the direction of TSCS Clergy, supports catechetical programming, including Order for the Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) and ongoing Catholic formation (e.g., Catholicism 101).
  • Provides theological reflection, retreats, etc...
  • Guides students in discerning sacraments and deepening their Catholic faith.
  • Supports prayer and devotional practices (Rosary, Stations of the Cross, Marian devotion, etc.).

Liturgy & Worship

  • Recruits, trains, and supervises liturgical ministers (lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, sacristans, musicians).
  • Ensures worship aids, liturgical supplies, Mass intentions, and prayers of the faithful are properly prepared.
  • Coordinates special worship opportunities such as Adoration, Benediction, and reconciliation services.

Community Building & Outreach

  • Plans and executes events that foster belonging (welcome BBQs, holiday celebrations, senior recognition, large-scale fellowship events).
  • Oversees outreach to first-year students, including orientations, small groups, and social events.
  • Promotes men’s and women’s outreach initiatives, strengthening evangelization.
  • Advises Catholic student organizations (e.g., Newman Club, Catholic Student Association) and supports their activities.

Service

  • Plans and leads mission trips and service projects.
  • Forms and supports student leaders in organizing service initiatives.
  • Facilitates reflection before, during, and after service experiences.

Administration & Collaboration

  • Manages assigned ministry budgets and stewards’ resources responsibly.
  • Supports development and advancement initiatives as needed.
  • Serves as a collaborative team member with clergy, staff, students.
  • Works with parishes to identify incoming students.

 

 

Additional Ministerial Responsibilities:

  • Participate actively in staff meetings, and campus ministry networks.
  • Represents Tinker Catholic Student Center Campus Ministry at interfaith associations, dialogues, and university-sponsored events.

Qualifications

Position Requirements

      

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong pastoral and relational skills, with the ability to mentor young adults
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of Catholic doctrine, liturgy, and practice.
  • Spiritual and pastoral guidance experience.
  • Able to collaborate with a variety of audiences, i.e., students, University administration, clergy, neighboring parishes.
  • Event planning, project management, and strategic planning
  • Administrative, communication, leadership, and relational skills.
  • Required familiarity with digital communication platforms,

 

Education and Experience:

  • Baccalaureate degree or higher.  A master’s degree in theology, pastoral ministry, or equivalent background or experience also acceptable.    
  • 5-8 years of ministry experience (campus ministry, young adult, or catechetical ministry preferred)
  • Demonstrated success and experience in working with a campus ministry or similar ministry preferred.  

 

Special Requirements:

  • Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing who supports and upholds the mission of the Gospel and the Catholic Church by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church in keeping with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
  • Weekend and evening availability is required.

 

 

Physical Requirements Specific to the Job:
